Volunteer Services

Probation's Volunteer Services actively recruits those who are at least 18 years of age to volunteer in Adult Services, Juvenile Services, Juvenile Treatment Facilities, and Probation Auxiliary County of Kern. Programs in place and seeking volunteers include Camp Owens' mentoring program, Friday Night Friends; Grandparent Project at Juvenile Hall, and tutoring in all subjects at the Juvenile Facilities. New ideas for programs are accepted on a continuing basis for consideration.
Probation's Intern program partners with Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso College, Santa Barbara Business College, and California State University, Bakersfield and requires students to be at least 21 years of age. The assistance of college interns has allowed a closer level of supervision of probationers with placement possible throughout the Probation Department.
All volunteer and intern applicants are required to go through an extensive background check as part of the approval process, and each applicant's information is reviewed on an individual basis.
Annually, community volunteers give over 30,000 hours of their time and talent to the Probation Department's Volunteer Services. If you would like to become part of this team, please give Probation a call at 661 868-4100 or 661 391-2282 for additional information.
