Supervision

The purpose of Juvenile Supervision is to assure that juvenile probationers comply with the orders of the Juvenile Court. The primary concern is the protection of the community as well as rehabilitation. To accomplish this goal, over fifty officers are assigned to juvenile services supervision duties. All of these officers are armed and trained to supervise caseloads of selected medium to high risk offenders. All officers in these units have knowledge of intervention strategies, treatment techniques and community resources available to modify the behavior of the probationers. Evidence based programming and best practices are becoming part of the protocol for these services.

The Metropolitan Supervision Unit's goal is to ensure the Wards of the Court living in the Metropolitan area of Bakersfield comply with Juvenile Court orders. There are several specialized caseload designed to meet the individual needs of the probationer. The specialized caseloads include; School Supervision, Graffiti, Sex Offenders, High-Risk and Medium-Risk Offenders.

"High" supervision caseloads are comprised of probationers who, because of their level of delinquent behavior, require more intensive supervision standards. These caseloads include offenders who may be violent offenders or serious habitual offenders. "Medium" Supervision cases generally consist of new cases, transfers from higher level of supervision and repeat offenders. All Officers assigned to a High, Medium or Specialized caseload are armed. These officers work closely with the local police and Sheriffs Department and are often involved in coordinated sweeps, searches and other similar operations. One night each week all supervision officers work a late night shift so probationers can be contacted in the evening.
