Matthew S. Fontaine

Mr. Fontaine received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990. His career in Probation began in 1990 when he was hired as a Group Counselor Extra Help at Juvenile Hall. Since his permanent appointment in 1993, he has served as a Deputy Probation Officer, Assistant Division Director of Camp Erwin Owen, Division Director of Camp Owen, and Division Director of Adult Services. In 2011 he began serving in his current position as Division Director of Juvenile Hall.

Throughout his career, Mr. Fontaine has served the Department in many capacities including; the Kern County Sheriff’s Department’s Gang Suppression Unit, the Truancy Reduction Program, the Juvenile Court Day School (Blanton Academy), Kern Terrorism Network, Domestic Violence Death Review Committee. Mr. Fontaine has served as an officer both regionally and on the State Board of Directors in both the California Association of Probation Institution Administrators and the California Association of Probation Services Administrators.
