Probation’s Volunteer Services actively recruits individuals who are at least 18 years of age to volunteer in Adult Services, Youth Services, Youth Facilities, and Probation Auxiliary County of Kern. We have numerous volunteer opportunities available within the department and new program ideas are accepted for consideration on a continual basis. Programs in place and seeking volunteers include Camp Owen, Friday Night Friends, Grandparent Project at the Youth Detention Center, and tutoring in all subjects at the Youth Facilities.
Probation’s Intern program partners with Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso College, Santa Barbara Business College, San Joaquin Valley College, and California State University, Bakersfield. The assistance of college interns provides an additional resource to help perform and fulfill department responsibilities more efficiently. Intern placement is possible throughout the Probation Department.
All volunteer and intern applicants are required to go through an extensive background check as part of the approval process, and each applicant’s information is reviewed on an individual basis.
Annually, community volunteers dedicate over 30,000 hours of their time and talent to the Probation Department’s Volunteer Services. For additional information about Volunteer Services, please call 661-868-4100.
