The AB 109 Division was created in 2011 following the California Legislature’s vote to realign the criminal justice system. Realignment created two new supervision types for the Probation Department to manage: Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and Mandatory Supervision (MS). Despite being considered non-violent, non-serious, and non-sex offender, many of these offenders display a heightened criminal sophistication, continued involvement with gangs, and a propensity for violence and weapon possession.
The AB 109 Division is also home to the department’s GPS program, Day Reporting Center (DRC), and Adult Programs Center (APC). The DRC and APC are part of the department’s balanced approach to providing accountability and opportunity to our clients. These programs are designed to rehabilitate and redirect offenders through evidence-based modalities, cognitive and physical skill development, substance abuse treatment, and community-based services.
